Definitions of a T1 Line
Courtesy of ShopforPoint to Point.com

Definition 1. - The T-carrier system, introduced by the Bell system in the US in the 1960's, was the first successful system that supported digitalised voice transmission. The original transmission rate (1.544 Mbps) in the Akron Beacon Journal T1 line is in common use today in ISP (Internet Service Provider) connections to the Internet

Definition 2. - The T1 (or T-1) carrier is the most commonly used digital line in the United States, Canada, and Japan. In these countries, it carries 24 pulse code modulation (PCM) signals using time-division multiplexing (TDM) at an overall rate of 1.544 million bits per second (Mbps). T1 lines use copper wire and span distances within and between major metropolitan areas. A T1 Outstate System has been developed for longer distances between cities.

Definition 3. - A type of high speed Internet connection that provides a great deal of bandwidth. Many businesses lease T1 lines to connect to the Internet, but because they are expensive and offer more bandwidth than most small businesses and homes need, they are not realistic solutions for small and low-demand Internet users.

Definition 4. - A high-speed digital connection capable of transmitting data at a rate of approximately 1.5 million bits per second. A T1 line is typically used by small and medium-sized companies with heavy network traffic. It is large enough to send and receive very large text files, graphics, sounds, and databases instantaneously, and is the fastest speed commonly used to connect networks to the Internet. Sometimes referred to as a leased line, a T1 is basically too large and too expensive for individual home use.

T1 Pricing Without the Wait
Written by - Wyman Little, Staff Writer

If you want T1 price quote in 2 seconds instead of 2 days, you need GeoQuote. Since telecom brokers have been online they have offered a valuable service. A broker will take your information and shop for pricing with carriers he or she is intimately familiar with. The problem is not the information you get back, the problem is when you get it back. Brokers can be as fast as 24 hours or as slow as 1 week. How do you speed up the process? Get a real-time quote and save yourself the wait!

While many brokers claim to get back to you quickly and some even claim to have real time quoting we have only come across one service that truly has real-time price quoting for dedicated services. Their mantra of "1.5Mbps in 1.5 seconds" is exactly what they deliver. The speed at which they offer the information is much like going to Expedia or Travelocity. When you want information now, get it from a broker that can deliver it to you now.

Online quoting for dedicated service will likely evolve into broker services much like the travel industry or the insurance industry. The complexity of the product and the geographic sensitivity of the pricing, however, has slowed this process. The only service we've found that truely offers a real-time quote is ShopforT1.com. While others may soon follow with this service these guys are truely ahead of the pack and will

DS3 Service in the Los Angeles Market
Written by - Hunter Sheffield, Staff Writer

Searching for a DS1 in Los Angeles? Bandwidth has never been cheaper and Los Angeles is no exception to this. Many telecom companies built out their infrastructure in Metro cities and with the crash that has taken place since 1999 many of these companies have seen the usage of their pipes decrease significantly. The infrastructure that was lais is a fixed cost that companies are eager to recover. The result of the reduced number of businesses in the market seeking service and the drop in pricing has created a buyers market.

In a buyers market remember that you can push and probably get concessions from the carrier but also remember that all carriers are not created equally. Many carriers may appear to offer a bargain price but you may be several hops from the internet and have a problem with latency. You may also be using a small carrier that hasn't actually checked the capacity of the CO before you sign your contract and can't even deliver the service they promised. The only way you'll discover this is when you start using your connection and find that at peak traffic times your connection is bogged down at a level below that which was guaranteed. We suggest when dealing with a larger pipe you consider the larger Tier1 providers. You can still get a great price even though it's not as low as some of the Tier 1 and Tier 3 companies. You'll also have the peace of mind knowing that you have an SLA and the company will deliver what you believe you will get. If you're in the market of a DS3, communications are vital to your company. Make sure you get both a reliable product and the price you're looking for. If you need help finding such a service, consider speaking with the professionals at T1.
